Pros

Fastenal can be a great place to work in a store getting to know customers and helping them with their needs on a daily basis. Great networking opportunity

Cons

When I was leaving Fastenal and interviewing with other companies, everyone said Fastenal is a 20/20 company. They hire 20 year olds for 20 months and then turn them over. Good luck finding a manager over 45 in the store level. The majority of employees are young white men 20-30 years old. Fastenal does not value experience in their stores, even though their customers do. As turnover occurs customers leave and buy elsewhere because service falters when good people leave.

Pros

Good for a part time job. High turnover leads to a lot of opportunity for advancement.

Cons

After you advance, you typically get let go for "underperforming" once you start making too much money. Company changes commission structure frequently to stiff hard working employees that probably make on average 32k/year as an OSP, 45k/year as a GM. Company went on a hiring spree, then fired most of those employees once quarterly earnings report was released.
