Pros

In remote areas it can be a good job. If you're willing to drink the blue kool-aid it can also be a good job.

Cons

Each store is a very different experience to work at. If you land in a good store you'll enjoy your time. If not you'll hate your experience. Their vision is not very focused. They want to do primarily B2B sales and yet have their stores open to the public thinking they're going to compete with Home Depot and this really distracts the team. Instead of being on the road making sales, delivering product, working up your commission - you're stuck baby sitting a store. On the subject of commission - they looove to play games with commission and they expect exponential growth otherwise your commission takes a hit. Anyone with a basic understanding of math knows exponential growth is not sustainable. If i made you 30k in profit during January of one year, my commission should be the same (not half) if make you 30k in profit during January of the following year.

Pros

If you get hired under a good regional manager, and a general manager, then it’s going to be pretty good. There’s always an opportunity to grow, and if you push or work hard, they will give you compensation of some kind. Good sales experience, they are always willing to help you grow. You learn about nuts and bolts you wouldn’t even think to learn about. Being a part timer here is good if you are a college student, as they are pretty flexible with hours as long as they have coverage. You get to visit customer sites and some of them are really cool, you also meet people you would of never met if not for this company.

Cons

It really does depend on the manager. They can make or break the job for you. It’s high paced, and the customers are always demanding. The systems we use are out dated, as well as the machines we use for ticket printers and scanners. Every store is dusty and old. Sometimes the higher ups expect a bit much and at times lack empathy, especially for male employees, and female employees tend to be favorited. You also have to know someone who knows someone to get hired here.
