Pros

Great training programs, great work environment, fast paced, you learn a TON, opportunity to learn several different functions, recieving, shipping, billing, sales, retail management, etc. Great resume builder for sales experience.

Cons

Lack of opportunity to move up because they have slowed down opening new stores. Seems to be that unless your manager leaves or is promoted, you may never get promoted. If you do a good job at one store and make your sales high - it is unlikely they will transfer you to another position in fear the store that you are at will suffer sales when you leave.

as a manager you are your own boss and are free to create a business plan that fits the community and market that you are located in.

Cons

Low pay, 50+hr/wk, corp really pushes what you must sell each month (bounty). Employee turnover is brutal, and management tries to find the youngest most inexperienced sales reps to get by on the cheap.

The freedoms you have during the day. Weekends off. Not a whole lot of micro management.

Cons

I know that everyone wishs they could make more money. Thats pretty much everywhere. But at Fastenal the pay is absolutely horible. Year after year it gets worse and worse. Too many bean counters justifying there job back in Winona I guess.
