Pros

If you are a girl seeking no career progression or if you are atleast a vp who has no vertical barrier or challenge/ threat. I in my first few months started noticing the inner workings of the compny. The key stakeholders are in UK. New recruits technically are recruitment consultants but on paper in background are called trainees. First few months down the line either ud be sent for a training or for a short trip or campaings to us and canada as a part of luring and faking growth opportunities. Account managers are strictly male who have bad standing in social sense and are wannabe womanisers. Southeast asian women are most often the easy catch for this position.

Cons

If you are a girl seeking no career progression or if you are atleast a vp who has no vertical barrier or challenge/ threat. I in my first few months started noticing the inner workings of the compny. The key stakeholders are in UK. New recruits technically are recruitment consultants but on paper in background are called trainees. First few months down the line either ud be sent for a training or for a short trip or campaings to us and canada as a part of luring and faking growth opportunities. Account managers are strictly male who have bad standing in social sense and are womanisers. Recruiters are predominantly females who are hired nominally to source candidates and more so to hang around with the account managers to please them at their will. Genuine career focused smart and intelligent ladies i had opportunity to work with quit their jobs in less than 3 months. I was asked to push new recruiter and encourage them to go into sales and train with the account managers. Upon seeing that none are going forth i realised that women recruiter here were just a means of keeping the account managers happy and distort their ambitions to rise if any. More so in past 3 years with the compny i heard the same bluff story give to the new hires that a new location is going to be a chance for some recruiter to take up responsibility and manage. There was just one and that too was handed over to a brit. Moral of the story is it is a high return business of charging clients slightly less than market, paying recruiters and managers slightly more than the industry and making sure the profits chirned are reserved for the highest stake holders in UK and may be a couple of execs in Toronto. If u are looking to make it big in recruitment or sales based account management it would be advisable to kick start your search after 6-7 months of working here and look into more professional compnies with diverse client base like roberthalf or ranstad if achieving corporate excellence is what u seek.

Pros

Basic training to help you get to a level playing field in the tech market It gives you a platform to network with people who will eventually be placed with other financial institutions.

Cons

Surely compensation a major factor in deciding where to work. FDM operates as a vendor firm supplying T&M to clients. With recruitment companies, they may take a percentage cut of your wage from your employer. But with FDM, they actually take whatever over and above the agreed wage they pay you I.e. 22k; there are cases where clients are paying 50, even 60k to FDM, and they will still be paying you 22k. That's more than a bit unfair. And you don't get to choose what you want to work in, basically you are expected to show a positive inclination to whatever they have to offer, where you may end up doing what you don't set out to do.

Pros

You get to meet different people from all background and walks of life The training is pretty good as are the trainers They do make getting onto the job market easier

Cons

No pay till your first contract, outwith travel expenses You dont get treated with very much respect by account managers. Most. There is no guarantee you'll get a contract soon after your training. Bit of advice, don't start between late september & November. You don't get a say in the jobs you interview for or where you get placed. Unless you have a good reason i.e. a child. There is no guarantee the role you sign up for is what you'll end up doing.

FDM Group Response

I’m glad you rate the training highly and that you recognise FDM makes it easier to get onto the job market. I’m sorry you wouldn’t recommend FDM though. Our business model is based on assisting people launch/re-launch careers. The training period is financially funded by FDM: At that point people are training, rather than working – and the salary begins once they’re placed on a client site. It is also at that point when FDM can begin to make a return on the upfront investment that we make in people. We do try to accommodate preferences for placement where possible and, we like to encourage our consultants to join the clients as a permanent employee after the two year bond with FDM. So placing people somewhere which is not their preferred geographic location is not something FDM likes to do. That said, placement locations vary depending on client demand and therefore geographical flexibility is a requirement (which we reiterate throughout the recruitment process). We appreciate that the FDM Careers Programme may not suit everyone, but the vast majority of FDM consultants progress to enjoy successful and lucrative careers, which is what we set out to achieve. If you believe that anyone at FDM has disrespected you, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further so that I can personally investigate and address this.
