Pros

There is some potential (heavy emphasis on some here) to get a placement with a large company. If you do not come from a technical background, the training almost seems decent as a whole

Cons

Firstly, you only receive 5 weeks of tailored data engineering training - the rest is consistent with all other technical streams. This is a problem as the week on CSS/HTML was completely pointless and has no use for a data engineer. The training at time can be absolutely awful and is seriously lacking in quantity. You could honestly do better by just doing online courses on Udemy. I heard from other cohorts who trained entirely remotely during COVID that FDM did not even pay the licenses for software. They actually had to train using the free-trial versions of software, which is just ridiculous. The prospect of a placement within Data Engineering and Data Science is very slim. I was fortunate enough to get placed however, I have heard that no one has been placed within a stream-relevant job. The massively inflated training fees..... Ultimately, I would not recommend the Data Engineering stream at FDM - opt for something else that has higher employment rates.

Pros

Provides good software training and soft-skills training. Friendly staff. They will help you develop and get a job

Cons

Locked in for two-years with a low salary. Placement is almost non-negotiable (none of the new employees knew about the strict placement until the first day of work)

Pros

Crazy account managers selling you like a piece of meat

Cons

Everything. The recruiter asked me before joining if I wanted to be a developer or a tester. I told her whichever is easier to get a job and she replied with “both are fine, you should pick whichever you prefer more”. So here I am, making a lazy decision to go with the testing route - with a Computer Science degree in my hand already. Fast forward 3 months later after training, I still struggle with finding a job in testing and I see every developer getting hired around me. Mind you, I try to prove to them that I am capable of developing but the account managers already stuck a label on me forever in this company. I finally get a job at company X for a manual testing position and quickly decide to leave. I plot my way through and basically forced them to fire me so I wouldn’t pay the 30,000 dollar contract. Mind you, this was a very frustrating process with everyone asking for an explanation.
