Pros

* The academy offers a good opportunity to develop the basic skills and knowledge needed to transition from en e.g. botanical surgery degree to an IT career. The academy staff are also very helpful and approachable, so if you make good use of your time there you can gain a lot of insight from their past experiences * You may encounter many like-minded consultants, which may develop into a beneficial network several years down the line. * Clients seem generally empathetic with the low level of support and tend work to compensate, so you may again find good opportunities for external networking and coaching. * Clients do indeed advertise roles which may truly fast-track your career. In order to reach them though you must first master the art of failing the interviews which are not aligned with your goals without being too conspicuous or causing a demonstrable breach of contract.

Cons

* If you join the company in a consulting role, the management staff stops regarding you as a person, but as a product instead. The level of disregard for the consultants' well-being, despite them being the only source of revenue, is staggering. * Engaging with support staff (e.g. HR) is often redundant, as they merely offer standardised responses with no bespoke consideration within ridiculously long timescales. * In my entire career I have not been made aware of anyone in the industry being paid even close to as little as FDM consultants in their first two years of employment, even if I were to include the claimed value of the academy training.

FDM Group Response

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I’m glad that you would recommend FDM and that you recognize the opportunities, but I’m sorry to hear that you think we don’t care about our consultants. Our people are the most important part of our business, which is why we invest a significant amount of resources into launching careers. We appreciate that the programme may not suit everyone, which is why we try to be as transparent as possible and go through the model as well as all the terms and conditions (including the salary), during the assessment process. We are always looking for ways to continue improving and welcome all feedback. If you’re willing to discuss your feedback further with me, I would welcome the opportunity – please email me at andy.brown@fdmgroup.com Andy Brown – Chief Commercial Officer
