Pros

Sometimes you'll have coworkers you like, but that's about the extent of the pros.

Cons

I really don't know where to start. You have to wash cars, as a college grad in full suits. The customers you deal with will actually make you fall into depression. Everyone in the company knows how terrible it is but upper management refuses to make any changes to improve quality of life. Corporate is zero help, if your branch needs cars and no other branches are sharing your supposed to call corporate. Well many times they'll tell you no, and your left to fend for yourself. Things like this cause customer service to go down, and you are directly graded on customer service. So things that are completely out of your control will also be the reason why your not promoted. I could write a book on the cons but I'll finish with this. Enterprise grades you on customer service yet doesn't give you the cars you need. They grade you on sales, yet place you in locations where nobody has the income to purchase additional items other than their rental car. Which is unfair because you have really nice locations where people have expendable income and the employees there are praised like rock stars. You'll work 7am to 7pm every single day 5 days a week, and will also work on weekends. Their is zero work-life balance and I can't stress that enough. That might actually be the biggest problem of all, because along with the customer screaming in your face all day long, you also can't go home to rest it off and start a new day. You'll start dreaming of people treating you poorly because that's what you face every single day of your life when working Enterprise. If their is a single review on glassdoor giving this place more than 1 star then they are 100% lying. Read my review as an undeniable fact, and if you don't believe me drive to your nearest Enterprise and give them a hug because they might start weeping on the spot.

Pros

Great bond with other Management Trainees and some of management can be nice. You can make money if you rise the ranks but Enterprise will become your entire life. If you work there for less than a week you only have to hand in your notice 1 week before your final day.

Cons

Huge pressure on sales despite the fact that you receive no commission off of your own sales, instead the money goes into the pockets of your managers. Absolutely no work-life balance, can very easily work up to 12 hours a day without a break. The training had very conflicting information and the trainers could be very rude. The work culture is incredibly toxic, the majority of managers just want to make money from you and aren't interested in how you are. You are not taken care of whatsoever. If you have to take a sick day, all they are concerned about is when you will be coming back in. Be prepared to wash cars in freezing temperatures while still having to wear a suit. They try and dazzle you with the money that you can make if you are promoted to keep you motivated to work. However, they make it extremely difficult to actually be promoted. You are at the bottom of the ranks and are put under a high amount of stress on a daily basis. In terms of the pay, if you calculate it on an hourly basis, it is barely above minimum wage. They hold monthly personal development meetings where they just reinforce all of the things that you are doing badly. It is in an effort to motivate you to perform better but it is very degrading. They expect you to have a car even though it is nowhere in the requirements for the job. I was physically unable to be able to pay for a car on top of all of my expenses but they did not care. It is the worst job I have ever had in my entire life.

Pros

As a trainee you are basically a glorified taxi / delivery driver, spending 8-10 hours driving gives you a great knowledge of your local area and pretty much anywhere within a 3 hour radius to go collect vehicles.

Cons

A job advertised as 48 hours however you work till the job is done. Due to poor greed from the company over promising for vehicles this means on average every day is a 12-14 hour day. Working weekends you are promised a half day off to compensate for the weekend however your branch will be so overrun this stops. Area managers often alter time sheets to give their area a better working hour average, this was something I raised to HR as I was unhappy with this and nothing was done despite having photo evidence of my time sheet before and after the alters, showing it had been altered. As a manager or assistant manager you are paid a % of branch’s profit. This sounds amazing however they make it impossible for you to make money. The company allows customers / businesses to book vehicles despite these not being physically onsite - this means as long as there is a vehicle available within the country essentially you can book a car. This leads to branch shortages, area shortages and essentially means you spend hours driving to collect vehicles. Essentially a glorified taxi driver. I have done a 6 hour trip before to collect a van that was out for 3 hours and then given to another branch. Overtime is deducted from managements pay, customer complaints are charged to a branch with a £1000 fine per complaint. Add this to the unrealistic booking system and essentially management do not make any money. You may work 60 hours a week every week and in times where branches are busier the hours get longer and longer and longer. Managers do not get paid overtime and deductions mean you may not get any commission so you are on the base of 20,000. Essentially hours worked + lack of pay means you may barely make minimum wage. I had a colleague who was so stressed with trying to work to get everything done he slept at the branch one night due to working so late cleaning cars and then needing to collect vehicles again from 5am. There is no support from senior managers, area managers do not answer their phones and will simply tell you to ‘get the job done’. They blame everything on poor planning from the branch managers with no regard to the branch managers lack of control over lack of vehicles. It is worth noting if you keep a vehicle at your branch you do not need you are charged for this, again another way of ensuring that branch managers and assistant managers do not get paid. This makes it very very difficult when you are trying to budget for your mortgage, house bills ect. The management team are very favourable to members of staff, employing friends and family and these quickly get promoted through the ranks. It’s also worth noting the same rules do not apply to these people, I have seen people fired for taking cars home and these favoured people who have also broken the same rule have been promoted. Rotas and annual leave is also favoured for these members of staff and others are unable to book popular periods of time off consistently but the same members of staff always conveniently get these.
