Pros

Good salary, great benefits (10% 401k match), short work week (37 hrs), and lots of vacation (5 weeks).

Cons

Horrible management, endless bureaucracy, managers moved in and out of positions every 1-2 years. Very cold and unfeeling company. Management used a recorded video (that was delivered via email and didn’t work on half of the company computers) informing ~150 employees that the office was closing and that they might (or might not) be offered a transfer. Severance was unfair and health insurance stopped on the day you left the office. Horrible experience.

Pros

As an international expat, if you negotiate well, you can achieve an excellent salary and relocation package.

Cons

There is no career path, or respect, for non-Italians. Eni is a complex, massive organisation. It is filled with some excellent, really intelligent individuals. Unfortunately, the majority are useless. Management is conducted through intimidation and threats. There is no transparency, people are treated differently depending on their nationality, how well connected they are to management, and immorality is de-rigueur. Your productivity is irrelevant, so you may get a bonus, or may be forgotten - depending on how the wind blows (there is no tangible subjectivity or consequence to performance). Conversations are held in a downward one-way fashion: take it or leave it. The best time to join Eni as an expat (international employee via EIRL) is when they are busy; HR is disorganised and overworked, pandering to the whims of multiple entities, organisations and competing factions. If you are lucky you can get a few years on great money with no real responsibility, autonomy, authority or attention. Enter with no expectations apart from dutifully receiving your salary.
