Pros

Very stable, work is pretty easy, generally quite slow paced. Good benefits.

Cons

- Pay is meh, and increases quite slowly - It's difficult to make any meaningful career progression because the work (for some teams, not all) isn't technically challenging. Telus Digital uses modern technology but isn't exactly an engineering forward culture - Harder to hire, even more difficult to fire. My team made a very poor hire - they performed ok in the interview process, but we were desperate to bring someone in because they were one of only a few candidates we had been able to interview in months. I have never worked with someone who has caused so many of their teammates to quit due to their working style and lack of interpersonal skills. Despite many meetings to give feedback, they're still there. - The above point may be due in part to the lack of a standardized hiring process. Despite hiring many similar roles (developers, QA, designers, product managers, scrum masters), each team has a different process and different expectations. This means that some teams have very poor hiring practices. I've seen a "technical interview" with a panel of four people - only two of which were engineers. - Developers report to non-technical manager (the person who leads the product portfolio). It's difficult to get feedback or career support when the manager isn't involved in the team's day to day (they don't participate in scrum ceremonies, standup), and they don't understand your job.
