Over the last 3 years we have significantly grown the leadership in our organisation in order to focus more in planning, people growth and performance. This has resulted in major improvements in engagement, career management and feedback which tells us we must be doing something right.
We most certainly do not have a "my way or freeway engineering culture". In fact we strongly encourage our staff to bring new ideas for open discussion. That said, as a company that has grown from being a start up to being a mature scaled up enterprise (and still has not lost any of the goodness from our startup culture) we do need to standardise on approaches and ways of doing things so that we are not constantly "reinventing the wheel" and making it easier for our engineers to move between technology domains.
Over the past 2-3 years we have seen a lot of internal promotions into senior roles in the organisation and our career pathways offers enormous opportunities for our tech staff to have long, diverse and exciting careers in the company.
