Pros

My immediate colleagues and manager were fantastic - but this is not representative of the whole company I also enjoyed the subject matter of content I was working with and my tasks in general

Cons

The company has an outdated mindset, the possibility of working from home was not even remotely on the cards, until it was forced by the COVID situation Hierarchical structure, where senior management look down on the people below and outright ignore them in the hallways Favouritism when it comes to hiring (hiring friends of family member etc,), lack of diversity Toxic environment that is not kept in check by HR Packages are for the most part the minimum statutory No pay rises, no matter how many times you ask, laughable salaries, talented young experienced employees are not nurtured and not rewarded for their efforts, while dinosaurs who have been around at the company for decades and who don’t really have any idea about contemporary publishing make decisions, resulting in the company making investments in projects that are bound to fail Lack of transparency when it comes to career progression, departments are reshuffled by directors based on internal politics, so you don’t even get a chance to be a contender Appalling, secretive and non-transparent redundancy process, where you get pushed out the door as soon as possible Turnover is very high, a constant carousel of inexperienced new starters who don't know what they are doing Offshoring to India and keeping juniors instead of experienced staff to pay lower salaries and giving them the senior staff workload

but NYC’s costs prevent true luxury unless income is much higher.
