Pros
Hourly employee with night time differential. Time and a half pay plus holiday pay. Time off is very flexible if you’ve worked there for a while. 3+ years you start to get good vacation time, plus PTO & unpaid time off. So you can take a whole lot of time off and with short notice due to the flexible hourly employee policy. As far budget, you can order a whole lot to improve your site as long as you & your manager have a good understanding & clear vision. Also, it is a really good space for new safety professionals to learn a lot about safety programs and working with various stakeholders.
Cons
Downside is you have to work nights or really early AM if you work at Amazon Logistics (AMZL). Operations leaders don’t care much for safety and if you don’t have their buy in or the site HRs respect, then you can expect nothing safety related to get done. It will fall on you to a degree, though a lot of blame gets put on the operations leaders. Also, keep in mind that more recordables at your site will equal to a lower salary pay on your yearly performance review. Although safety specialists exist for incident reporting and regulatory compliance, too much injury reporting actually negatively impacts your performance & compensation.
