Not what it seems

Pros

A large company with opportunities across business units (though not always clear how to move between jobs).

Cons

Company with an "old conservative corporation" mentality. There are pyramids of managers, many of them loosely qualified and certainly not needed. Communication is difficult and confusing, and very slow. Rapid changes in Publishing mean that strategies, projects, and priorities are constantly in flux. Change feels often directionless. Feedback is not always welcomed. Management discusses what goes well instead of looking at what is not working with clarity. The company states is fully committed to Diversity & Inclusion. But diversity in many locations is very sparse. Many promotions are based on diversity quotas and often given to less qualified colleagues, instead of recruiting a truly diverse workforce. It's the wrong fix. The company offers a plethora of Wellness programs that are meant to help manage burnout. They are attempting to fix the symptoms instead of the root causes. I don't know of anything that is being done to prevent work and moral burnout.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, you are a former employee, so investigating any issues may be difficult without any further information. We take your review seriously. However, our recent employee opinion survey shows strong positive momentum in how people experience working at Elsevier, but it appears that hasn’t been the case here. We have over 8,000 employees worldwide and in different locations, so gathering more information for us to be able to investigate this will be helpful. If you prefer, feel free to reach out to us at elseviergdrev@elsevier.com to provide more information. Again, thanks for your review.

Pros

Nothing good at all frankly

Cons

A healthy person got into this company last summer and now going to leave with a bunch of mental health issues. Oh forget to mention that I am leaving because I am getting suicidal.
