Cons

Don't care if their employees die. Continued to report I was being paid to HMRC after I left costing 000's £ in extra tax Do not honour their contractual commitments. Avoid like the plague.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. Note that we have often heard that some of the best parts of working at Elsevier is our people, our work environment and how we are a trusted employer. It's people like you, a former employee and our current employees that help make it that way. So, thank you. As well, of all the reviews we have received and read across Glassdoor, not once have we been described or criticized as a corrupt organization. We are fully committed to creating a great work environment for our people and in all the countries and territories in which we operate, we comply with local employment laws. Many of our former employees have returned to our organization to work with us again for this reason. We don't know what happened in your case, but this is not a common occurrence and we are certain that any misunderstanding regarding your tax issues could have easily been resolved by our Payroll if you had contacted them. In addition, HMRC will always refund any overpaid taxes if this is truly the case. We suggest you contact them too. If you are still experiencing this tax problem issue, you can contact us at elseviergdrev@elsevier.com

Pros

Higher purpose: Not selling cans of coke or software - but supporting the advancement of science and health. In general a positive, open culture with 'no stupid questions'. Oxford is the centre of gravity for some activities, but with many other notable locations in London, Amsterdam, Philly.. but Elsevier is highly interconnected across geographies, so Oxford is connected globally. Many have managers in different locations. Career development, training, diversity all becoming much more embedded and prominent. Smart people and in general a remarkably BS free environment. With a new CEO at the helm in 2019, the message of innovation and change seems to be trickling down and making an impact throughout the organisation

Cons

Can be TOO concensus driven. What else? um...the Oxford canteen service sucks
