Pros

Brand Elsevier, the legacy and reach of its products

Cons

The management lacks even basic empathy. I applied to a full-time position and was provided a 1 year fixed term contract, I refused signing it saying I needed a permanent contract from day 1, then got a call from them explaining how this is just a formality. They said everyone at Elsevier receives 1 year contract which is converted into a permanent one after 6 months and I shouldn't even think that I would not have job security as they take full guarantee that mine is a permanent contract only with starting with a formality of 1 year contract. I signed it...the CTO changed after 8 months, and I was let go saying my role had become redundant. The manner in which I was let go spoke volumes of how Elsevier treats its employees. Though the new CTO was there for 4 months, out of which I reported to him for 2 months he never met or spoke to me before firing me. I was called into a meeting by 2 people who I never spoke with and was informed I am being let go. They had no clue of what I was working on, but had already made up his mind when he joined and didn't care to even speak to understand what my role was. There were and still are at least 20 more people on the exact same role and responsibility as mine and when I asked of 'why' this discrimination they never gave any answer. Actually, I worked on the CTO's pet projects till my very last day and kept asking, if the work that I am doing is the no.1 tech priority, how can I be redundant, but again they didn't provide any answer.
