Some managers will danglea promotion to make you do work beyond your scope work and above your pay rate. For almost a year, took on responsibilities for a role above my position. Coworkers who did the bare minimum that also got to work late often and left early got the same raise. Some managers, even in different departments will sabotage or set you up for failure if they feel their job is threatened by your accomplishments. After job hunting I realized they paid below industry rate for an engineer, all new offers were 20٪ - 30% more.
