Pros
It provides a great opportunity to challenge myself and push myself further than I would have ever expected. I have been consistently pushed into new roles and challenged to accept responsibilities as quickly as I am able to successfully do so. Leadership has allowed me to move into roles well beyond those generally associated with my job title, including building of substantial client relationships and representing the firm in sales discussions. Expectations tend to be for delivery of 120% of whatever is possible for the individual -- sometimes a positive aspect and great opportunity for growth, but also sometimes a challenge when it comes to attempting to establish a work/life balance.
Cons
The time and effort expected to be dedicated to the firm are not necessarily taken into account in establishing a competitive salary. Travel time is substantial, but no more than it would be at a peer firm. The firm is also very focused on audit, at the cost of alienating individuals who have been recruited to grow advisory and other practices without senior leadership support. The firm remarkably underinvests in technology infrastructure relative to many of its clients. Although marketing materials stress the global nature of the firm, it is still substantially segregated into regional and sometimes country-specific geographies, to the detriment of seamless delivery to our globally located clients.
