Pros

Outpace the industry with compensation and are internal communication tools have matured rapidly. Pockets of the company appear to be in good shape, finding them is a challenge. If you are looking for a profitable, large company for your resume Dell fits the bill 100%.

Cons

Terrible mix of bringing in new management to intersect with old, reluctant to change process and bureaucracy. Reorganization trigger finger has to be the worst in class among Fortune 500 companies. Any hopes and dreams of moving from the bottom of an organization to the top were killed 10 years ago. Since everyone is using Dell as a launching pad - good idea and people leave too often.

Pros

Work/life balance Affordable city Strong peers

Cons

Environment for past couple years has not been conducive to personal growth. Most people feel stuck at their current level, despite the ability to change roles laterally throughout the organization. Not expecting much to change in the next couple years.

Pros

Compensation commensurate with other high tech companies. Dell also offers opportunities to really change things and strike out on your own. However, there are downside risks to doing so with almost no upside.

Cons

No overall vision/strategy that is consistent over the long term. Also, a maniacal focus on whats wrong and focus on mistakes versus encouraging risk taking. company pays lip service to risk taking and diversity. In action neither are embraced. just look at the senior executive ranks over time for a proof point. Dell is also very inconsistent in promotion policies between different divisions from the junior to executive ranks. If you are in the "in" crowd, it can be good. however, if you fall out, you are in deep trouble....
