Pros

Solid tech which solves complex data processing and machine learning. Very good benefits including gym reimbursement, typical tech industry health care with low deductibles, good work life balance for sales, engaging and transparent CEO who holds all hands meetings and answers questions. Good culture, innovation, trial/error is encouraged. Managers welcome feedback.

Cons

Tech is complex therefore companies must have complex requirements. However, sales is segmented to sell to every business as if every company requires their solution - they do not. Beware - they conduct significant back channeling while you are a candidate. They will comb their internal network and speak with your current/former co-workers/managers. There is risk that your current employer will find out you are interviewing with Databricks because of all the back channeling they conduct. If you are interviewing I would proactively request they do not contact anyone and offer up your own references. Few internal career opportunities. They aggressively hire from industry vs allowing employees to move into other departments. Your only career progression is within your own department ie difficult moving from sales to marketing or into product management. RSU compensation is based on previous valuation -7%. This is not reasonable as similar public growth companies' have been cut by 40%. They continue to hire and invest in growth while other tech companies are reducing spend as enterprises (their customers) cut back. This brings significant concern over future layoffs.

Pros

Hot product & space. Fast growing company. Smart people at every level. Extensive internal resources. Good internal systems. In-demand resume logo. Partnerships bring in leads. Salespeople in 2018 did very well.

Cons

"Grit" is what leadership wants in salespeople. Long hours is the norm. AEs strictly managed to sales process with little freedom to deviate. Especially hard for opps brought by platform partners in which customer doesn't want to be "sold" to again. Must submit recording of yourself giving the prescribed pitch - likely multiple times, as the positioning changes quickly. Lots of data collection (meeting counts, call counts, use of systems, etc). Long-time solution architects hard to get access too unless opp is highly qualified and substantial. Newbies on their own. Success dependent on accounts you're given. Average sales earnings in 2019 likely substantially lower than 2018 given how many salespeople added.
