Pros
1. Diversity initiatives are really good. LGBT awareness since before it was 'fashionable' for companies to claim so. Treatment of others at work is held high. Encourages women engineers to become leaders 2. Fosters community awareness and rewards employees for community service. 3. Entry-level pay is above-median pay for engineers. 4. Ability to pick up new job roles, and excellent ex-pat jobs if you're inclined. Cummins also has presence in major countries, and many young engineers pick up 1 or 2 year assignments wherever they want.
Cons
1. Not a research oriented company, tends to favor cost-effective manufacturing higher than bringing forth newer ideas. Most of the research is 'service' oriented and focused towards fixing issues on current products. 2. Company goes on 'hire-and-fire' mode frequently. Since 2010, three such instances have happened. A lot of good brainpower was lost, and entry level engineers struggled to keep up with the work. 3. Forced ranking still used for employee performance grading. They may not call it in as forced ranking but that's what it exactly is. The method may work in manufacturing, but amongst researchers it creates a culture of being overtly protective of their work, hurting collaboration.
