Pros

Cool projects that are challenging and satisfying.

Cons

Terrible efforts to retain entry level hourly folks. Also slow pay progression versus other companies for salaried folks, especially as responsibility goes up.

Pros

cummins is a good place to learn engineering skills, there is plenty to do so you will get a chance to work on projects that make your resume look good, working in an engineering role will also get you a lot of design, development, validation and even some manufacturing experience that few roles offer, Benefits and work-life balance are good.

Cons

1. Layoffs every 2-3 years, sometimes sooner. 2. The salary was good a the beginning, when I was fresh out of college, but it did not keep up with inflation, more importantly, it did not keep up with the value I provided to the company as a grew my skills and contributions, this was a big reason for me leaving. 3. I have nothing against the Indian co workers I had, they were all okay, but there is a very obvious take over, this has lead to favoritism which will affect you career growth. I personally saw some engineers barely work and get promotions, pay increases, better projects, etc. 4. The technicians do not like newer engineers coming in. This can make your job harder since they all mostly know each other and have an unfortunate clique attitude. 5. There is nothing to do in south Indiana.

Pros

Money is great only place in our area that pays a living wage without a college degree

Cons

Don’t ever consider getting married or trying to start a family, cause you will be expected to live under their roof. I’d have to take vacation days just to get my lawn mowed at home, I almost never had a Saturday off, and so if it happened to be raining or anything on Sunday (my 1 day off a week), I wouldn’t get my lawn mowed, several times I had to hire landscaping services just cause I never had enough hours in the day to take care of my family, and give Cummins 65+hrs a week……so nearly impossible to try and grow a family and grow a career with this company cause they EXPECT you to consider them your family or your religion, and until you get into a salary position your always expected to just live there and suck it up, miss all your kids ball games, burn vacation time for Dr’s appts, and getting your errands around the house done…..forget ever getting to lump your vacation and take the family on a Disney vacation……you gotta use your vacation for EVERYTHING cause they aren’t happy that you break 40hrs a week by day 4 every week, your expected to work 60-80hrs a week is what they seem to consider “full time” for an assembly worker…… I was selected for jury duty…..and I was on 3rd shift at the time, and Management/HR decided that I was expected to sit at the courthouse from 9-4:30ish every day, and then since it didn’t interfere with my 6pm-6am 3rd shift obligations, I was expected to be at work as well…..no excused days, no “come in at like 10” or something to shorten my shifts to 8hrs for the time I was fulfilling my civic duty…..so I ended up calling my Dr, and begging for a medical exemption to get off jury duty cause I wasn’t gonna try to work 12hr 6 nights a week at Cummins, and try to stay awake on a jury during the day for however long the trial lasted. I kinda know, what management/HR wanted was for me to burn an entire week of vacation for the week that the trial was tentatively scheduled. So I just vented to my Dr about how they get away with basically treating their assembly employees about like slaves minus physically abusing them….. they just shame you in front of your co-workers and bully you into having to use your vacation time for EVERYTHING…. gotta split cause ya gotta go pick your child up from school? Hope ya saved some vacation hours, cause it’ll be “unexcused”. Get sick and throw up in the bathroom and feel like you might wanna leave before the shift is over….SAME….better preserve ALL your vacation time just for “family emergencies”, and illnesses, because Cummins considers themselves YOUR FAMILY,…..and your never allowed to leave there unless you have vacation time to cover it, cause 3 unexcused absence in the same calendar year, and you’ll be in the unemployment line….. So ya gotta decide if having money and being somewhat financially comfortable is important, or having a family and enjoying your HOME family is important.
