Absent technical management and weak engineering has created a toxic work environment at RMEP.
Pros
Lots of technology, and almost no oversight as there is no one who understands the floor machines. This is a great place to learn as long as you can take toxic co-workers from other teams. Great launchpad, almost everyone leaves this place in 2 years after working in controls and makes almost double what they do at RMEP with less stress.
Cons
High turnover, 12 people in my 8 people team left in the two years I worked there. No original members left or are coming back. Slim possibility of promotion. Has ageism involved in this decision, as younger people are not given any opportunity or pay raises. There is also some "King making". Lots of employees are kids of executives, and even as engineers they get to immediately lead high visibility projects (sometimes even right out of college) whole other employees get grunt work. Immigration benefits are on an unreasonable timeline. Cummins RMEP contracts the immigration lawyers with a "Just in time" contract, where the immigration benefits (I140 application, H1b etc) are done as late as possible while continuing employment, so a cherry can be dangled to the employees for years. Work life balance was non-existent, at least in the assembly side of the plant. Exempt employees in the controls team are expected to work full production schedule (which is variable based on target numbers for that day)Some employees in the controls team quite literally cried in the middle of their drive home after their 10 hour shift while not having any time to sit or get lunch that day. It's usually 7AM -5:30 PM, and 24-7 on call. You can also be pushed to night shifts for extended periods. We also had weekly meetings at 6AM, and I was still expected to work until 5PM+ those days. Had to deal with maintenance technicians who are sometimes very vulgar. Controls engineers carry a radio at all times. In controls, also be prepared to deal with a lot of bureaucracy, as logs are scrutinized and people targeted with it. No training documentation is provided, and the controls team also is responsible for making engineering drawings for a lot of projects, wiring the panels and then finally programming the machine, without any instructions or guidance from other senior engineers. Also very toxic work environment as
