Pros

This job has given me a lot of perspective on how not to manage a company and treat employees and clients. Work From Home, Decent Benefits.

Cons

Dishonest company and Managers are really terrible. Not only do Managers have no leaders but Managers and Directors really dont know how to media buy or make ad creatives that work. I am working all the time day and night and I cannot make good all the promises that ctc makes to clients. I have been pressured by my manager to sell clients on packages they dont really need which is not ethical by my standards. the ceo will say one thing but do the opposite which results in a lot of disappointed employees and also clients. He turns a blind eye to a lot of the problems we have to deal with clients. its hard to trust him and the company direction now because he acts like he cares about the employees and clients but the actions speak for themselves because there is very low moral and lots of clients leaving. In my opinion I think there is very bad business practices not only in the way that managers treats employees but also really making clients mad happens everyday here. our company slogan really should be overpromise and underdeliver instead of achieve your dreams or whatever it is. Im looking for another job at other agencies after my short lived experience here.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us, and while this is not the experience we want to create, it is necessary to know so we can continue to improve. I hope you also included ways we can improve in our regular engagement survey. We try to create a space everyone we work with, including you, can feel empowered to share productive feedback with your manager, leadership, or Differentiation, so that we can work to address the challenges you’re encountering. We’re a company committed to the dreams of our clients and our employees, and if you feel we’re not meeting that promise in either respect, we want to hear about and work to address the core issues. If you’re comfortable, you can reach me any time at panagiota@commonthreadco.com.

Melting Pot of Chaos

Pros

1. Decent Benefits and Pay For the most part, the company has done a good job of hiring smart, hardworking people who add value to the company's culture. The company has done a lot of hiring in the past based on effort and interest, so contrary to a lot of the other reviews, the company has a pretty fair payscale relative to other roles in the industry, and in some instances, there are people who are getting paid more than their worth. Besides salary, the other benefits like PTO and health are pretty standard. 2. Experience and Networking The company is extremely fast-paced, especially if you work on a growth team. You will end up learning a lot in a short amount of time. If you enjoy being client-facing, there is a good chance that you will meet some rad people and gain visibility into businesses like never before. And like the many people that have left the company, you can add another brand that you've never worked on but brushed shoulders with on your resume. 3. ... Guess the snacks were ok.

Cons

MANAGEMENT! 90% of the management is unqualified to do their jobs. The company has people in positions of leadership that would NEVER succeed in the role of those they manage. Paid media has leadership that's never managed an ad account, creatives have leadership that can't discern between a good/bad ad, the NY extension is led by someone who's never excelled at any role they've been in, and the company has people making processes around project management but no one actually has formal project management training. Besides the lack of technical skills, most of the management also lacks people skills. The company may pride itself on transparency and feedback, but that's as good as trying to water your lawn behind a glass wall. You can see exactly what's going on the other side, but the moment you try to do something about it, the water just splashes back on you. They always ask for feedback but don't really do anything about it and when you try to give managers "managing up moments," they get defensive and make excuses. So many people actually feel uncomfortable giving their managers unfiltered feedback because they feel that nothing will change and it will only paint them in a negative light to their managers. You'll be stressed and overworked if you are a media buyer or team lead. These are the people who are responsible for generating revenue for the clients and they take the most heat. If something goes wrong, all fingers point to either or both of those positions. You'll only get celebrated if upper management likes you or if you have a fragile personality, then management will make sure that even if you took a dump in the wrong place, you get props for finally learning how to poop on your own. The internal company structure is absolute chaos. Every department points fingers at each other for who is responsible for what, but somehow only the team leads and buyers are responsible for revenue. The creative department is unorganized, lackluster, and is the same poorly run cycle regardless of how many times it's been restructured. Lastly, if you are extremely sensitive about discussing social issues, then this isn't the place for you. The company really prides itself on having women in management, whether they deserve to be there or not. It definitely leans left. If you don't want to share your dreams or dig deep into your soul, then this definitely isn't the place for you. It's mandatory for everyone to participate in a dream program and share with the company AND it's one of your kpis.

Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed feedback, I really appreciate it. We’ve recently expanded our team to include a certified Scrum Master, where your thoughts on project management have been shared. We’re currently planning the best way to provide project management support to an awesome and energetic crew through thoughtful structure. It's also true that we're committed to improving diversity at the company, and the approaches we're taking are designed to promote fair consideration and decision making regarding all applicants and employees. We don't believe, as you've implied, that this approach leads to unqualified people in important roles. Quite the contrary, it helps ensure that we're evaluating people based on their potential, skills, and outcomes rather than other factors. As to your suggestion “[c]onnect with the people who have seen the company evolved, whether they are current or past employees and ask them to give you their unfiltered thoughts, because I'm sure many would be glad to.” Yes please! We’ve rolled out a regular CTC Pulse and open to even more thoughtful connection. Send me an email at panagiota@commonthreadco.com at any time and I’d be thrilled to talk to you.

Pros

Ive gained experience working on a lot of clients in a short period of time. Free snacks in break room and occasional free lunches back when we worked in the office.

Cons

Anyone considering working here should brace themselves for high stress, low pay and backstabbing co-workers. Every agency is stressful and demanding to a point. However, working at common thread collective I have never felt more stressed or tasked to the max in my life. CTC is a total sweatshop. Do not be fooled, you will have no work/life balance and little to no room for advancement unless you are in the inner circle or you will be given lip service or the run-around. Pretty much all of the people who were promoted to managers obtained their position not by their contributions or expertise but only because they are apart of the CEOs inner circle. There is no integrity at this company. You're pressured to work insane hours while the managers watch your every move. I thought that moving the company to fully remote would elevate some pressure. However, the micromanagement and work load has actually gotten so much worse in the last month to a level I couldn’t even imagine was possible. CTC prides itself on being “the coolest place to work” and “care about their employees more than any other company”. The last time I checked, forcing employees to work 50+ hours every week and frequently work on weekends is not very cool or caring. CTC’s idea of the coolest place to work is listening to the CEO give “inspirational” sermons, mandatory therapy, and a company retreat at a school children’s sleepover camp in big bear. Common thread promotes a “family” culture where everyone pretend to be best friends. If you don’t particularly enjoy forced bonding events with your coworkers then this place is not for you. Despite the extraordinary effort by management to portray to the world that working at CTC is a happy place, that couldn’t be farther than the reality of the daily grind . Your coworkers/managers will smile to your face and throw you under the bus the next minute. CTC has a way of breaking down your spirit which is a reason why so many people have reached their breaking point over the last few months. I know for a fact that many employees - at all levels- including myself are out and looking for work elsewhere and are only riding it out until they find a new gig. Read the the other recent reviews, they're up here for a reason. Don't be fooled into thinking your experience will be any different. Hard work, dedication and commitment are not valued at common thread. You are just a number.

While this was not easy to read, listening to the voices of our employees and hearing their experiences gives us valuable insights on CTC’s perception of intention. Please know this experience couldn’t be further from the heart of those working to make CTC the best place possible for employees, as well as from feedback we regularly receive from the company at large. We recognize that this has been your experience and one we strive to improve. The Differentiation Team is here to support all employees and I’d love the chance to discuss this further offline if you’re willing, you can email me at panagiota@commonthreadco.com. Change does not come overnight and with continued feedback from all employees, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to making CTC be a place where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.
