Pros

This mature company has excellent leadership. They are open and frank about the state of the business and the direction it is moving in. The leadership can turn the business around in an incredibly short space of time, and they do - frequently. Remuneration is deliberately set above the national average for each role to prevent attrition. Benefits are generous. Employer pension contribution is excellent. The cash equivalent of a company car is a welcome boost to gross income. Very strong business ethics. Well organised. Great support services in IT and engineering. Overall it's a well run and well executed organisation. One that I am proud to have been a part of.

Cons

Constant reorganisations and product changes can be quite dizzying. But this is what makes the company so successful. Career progression can be difficult in such a large organisation that has very low attrition. Especially when stuck in a niche industry or speciality. The company attitude is very USA-centric. If reporting directly into a USA group, there will be very little understanding or respect for cultural values outside of their domain. This is challenging. Having been with the company so long, the start-up fun and excitement has noticeably vanished. It's very much a serious and mature business. Attitude towards employee working practices outside the USA: 16-hour days are anticipated

Pros

great virtual work policy....work where you please great tools for collaborating, especially Jabber (IM) and WebEx exciting to work for a major company that helps shape the tech industry Good severance if you are let go in the layoff, ahem, limited restructuring

Cons

Horrendously unstable Bad communications with employees So much lost time and effort wiped out each time layoffs; teams spend years developing great process and tools and then its all wiped out in a few weeks Employee paranoia -- when's the next cut coming

Pros

Not many Pros in this company anymore. Most of what Cisco's management is doing to attract college hires is by spending a lot of money on free food, snacks and weekly Pop-up Parties!

Cons

Culture is changing--bringing in college hires --for every college hire, Cisco gets rid of two senior professionals. Then over loads the college hires, essentially paying them a 1/4 of the salary. It was a great place to work now it is just trying to hang on with less talent.
