Pros

People are very nice, majority with agile values. Environment is supportive. Managers care about people even though they are many times overloaded. Flexible working hours, remote work possible, high trust and autonomy. Access to learning platforms.

Cons

Salary is ok, but not for the Porto or Lisbon location. Terrible fleet management, so that the benefit of a car becomes a nightmare. Company works on high margins and mostly is focused on output not outcomes. No integrations. Not many initiatives to meet your team. Very formal approach. Rather formal dress code in the office for management, even though its IT. The raises are low so better to ask for high value at the start. No career path for Scrum Masters, not clear appraisal politics. Expectations not clear at the start. Chaotic onboarding. 2-3 days of holidays are mandatory to take in December.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. When decisions are made at the top many factors come into play. One of them is the way it will impact all of our employees. We often have to make long-term business decisions that could have negative implications in the short term. If you bear with us during our time of growth, we believe that our whole company will feel a positive impact.

Pros

I have to say the working environment is pretty good and the work hours are flexible, allowing collaborators to better plan their personal lives. Here, we never really feel like we have someone constantly watching over our shoulder, which is a very good thing.

Cons

Severe lack of transperency when it comes to salaries, bonuses, and assessment standards. This company does not value loyalty in the slightest, a collaborator is better served by quitting the job and reaplying later than sticking around and improve themselves for better pay. I did not even know there were bonuses until a few weeks ago, as those were never specified by anyone, much less the attribution criteria. When it comes to performance assessment, the rating quotas mean there is no real incentive for someone to want to improve the quality of their work, as the top ratings are always explicitly "political". Management is very disconnected from the lower tiers they are responsible for and their willingness to listen and engage with the collaborators' career expectations leaves much to be desired. Although there are frequent questionnaires about the company performance and employee satisfaction, filing any complaint equates to shouting into the void. This leaves the career prospects more akin to a dead end than something one can grow in. A sizeable portion of the salary is deposited is this shady "insurance company" without any recourse. Of course we can withdraw the (our) money from this service, however a fee has to be paid in order to do so (in my native language this action is literally called a "ransom", go figure). These problems were already present when the company was still called Altran and it would seem like a lot of them would go away with the acquisition. Well, how wrong that line of thinking was. If anything, these issues have gotten even worse now and new ones have arisen. Some consultants are sold to the client as if they are senior level, even when they are not, as an attempt to win over certain projects. Also, it has been the case of collaborators going to work abroad and not getting full daily allowance for their last day over, despite only having returned after the full work day. While some of these may be common practice among this kind of companies, that is not the point of of this review, nor does it justify Capgemini Engineering's poor behaviour.
