Pros

Great brand, good on resume Rest of world does not know about the internal dysfunction. You may acheive job security if you focus on core functions. Knowledge workers are used on 'projects' but not well re-deployed.

Cons

Lip service is paid to training. The training budgets are a lot less than the website statements imply. Do not assume that you will get the training you need to progress. Often training budgets are expended on management. Some departments, not all, have a revolving door - after growing/downsizing a dept every 18 months for 8 yrs one might find a better solution. There is a permanent HR team to deal with 're-organization' - it is a joke in the industry.

Pros

Work hours are good when it comes to non-support related jobs. As with any large business there are different areas that have different atmosphere - some stale and some very dynamic. As for the big picture CIBC is a typical large (by Canadian standards) bank, nothing special.

Cons

Work has little or no financial recognition for extra effort. As long as person falls into job matrix he/she will be compensated exactly in that range with very little variations, individual contribution has the tiniest impact on the compensation. Work environment is very conservative even for a bank. Change management in the last years took the throne and crippled innovation to the point that business products became non-competitive.

Pros

The employee benefits are good. As with any bank, there is lots of room to grow and move careers within the company which is good for an employee who is just starting out in a career.

Cons

Tellers are underpaid compared to the same position at another bank. Management can be difficult to work with.
