Pros

Working from home is possible. Ability to move around the business even abroad if you build internal networks. Easy to stay and count the money if you are strong enough to adopt a certain mindset about getting into work and getting home and the possible repercussions of only working 9-5.

Cons

Traditional long standing company that still does very well from the myth that all BT people are paid a small fortune. Some BT salaries and terms were super competitive until mid 90s. Release package payments are a fraction of what they used to be and it is becoming harder to get paid release. BT is reknowned for badly practised performance management. BT and union comms are often contradictory on how the process is applied and the company is still not meeting it's targets for reducing its global head count. Some of the people I still know at BT remain in small niche teams operating as 'mates' I.e. Vendor security and data analysis and they seem to be left alone but many are in larger platform teams (Adastral Park) often managed remotely from India or the US where the management are hard micro managers.

Pros

Work life balance.. that is if you know how to manage your boss ,peers & stakeholders... since the perfromance management structure is a joke and all that people are concerned about is to find someone to balme for what has gone wrong.. instead of fixing the issues. It is a great place to work if you to leave your brains behind at home.

Cons

Leadership - there is no leadership here... every manager has their own agenda and there is no co-ordination or team work nor honesty . Processes are unclear and undefined, so if you have a god father in the org you can rise very fast and get things done which are ethically questionable. The org structure keeps changing constantly , without any proper buisness reason and nor does it allow time for peole to adjust and settle in with the change and the deliver on the targets. By the time the person understands and acclimatizes himself with the new team, manager & biz. unit, the org structure changes yet again. Pay is lower than industry standards for non technical roles and hikes are equally sad.

Pros

Flexibility to work from home. Excellent work life balance. Business is now sowing growth trends creating additional opportunities. Employees from across the world (including India) are treated with utmost respect & respected. Doesn't feel to be working in an offshore entity

Cons

Getting onsite assignments is a challenge. Movement within roles & across teams is challenging. Promotion is pretty hard to get.
