Pros

It is a stable employer, no mass layoffs like with big tech firms. Everyone is very nice. The work is usually calm. Good benefits with pension, broadband, 50% off EE and other helpful schemes. Processes are starting to become more efficient (finally!)

Cons

It can sometimes get too comfortable - not a high performing culture. Poor performances from individuals are often tolerated. Great performances from individuals are usually not rewarded. Pay is far below the market rate compared with most tech firms and competitors.

Pros

Nice offices in Edinburgh. Was able to order any kit I wanted for remote working, no questions asked. Some OK staff perks. Some useful training courses in new technology and opportunities to obtain certifications etc.

Cons

Entry level salary, did not receive a pay rise nor bonus in the final two years of my employment due to BT's continued disappointing financial results. Just some shares which I forfeited (now worth half their original value). Had to reapply for my job, at a junior/graduate pay grade, when the bank we were contracted out to wanted to re-negotiate everything. BT still take a nice cut of the daily rate they charge said bank. Absolutely minimal contact with my manager and senior management outside of staff meetings. Did not feel like a BT employee. Didn't even have a regular one to one. Begs the question, why bother having this middle man when I can just go in-house at said bank, which is what I did. BT made little effort to retain me when I informed them what my new salary would be.

Pros

They provided free tea, coffee, milk, sugar etc.

Cons

Management have no compassion. Zero work-life balance with random last minute shift changes. Scattered shifts while working nights (1 on, 1 off, 1 on, 1 off etc.). You have to log your own night allowance through a confusing system. Everything is locked and you can't access many things on some computers (such as emails, teams etc.) - felt like they didn't trust their staff. Hiring large groups of people without care just to fill roles that they have a high turnover for. You're literally just a number to them, not a person - makes you feel dispensable. Didn't meet my manager the first couple of months I was there.
