The most toxic place I've ever worked at

Pros

BT has some good benefits and good staff discounts on its products.

Cons

The culture here is at least 20 years behind a normal inclusive working environment. I've personally witnessed employees behaving horrendously to each other, shouting matches in meetings and teams calls. The culture is a huge problem that management seems completely unaware of. If someone from BT tried to work anywhere else they be speaking to HR faster than you can say disciplinary. Aside from the awful culture, they have implemented a rigid and regressive hybrid working policy on the flimsy reasoning that it improves collaboration which it doesn't . The offices are now just seas of employees talking on teams calls because teams are spread out over the whole country. Pointless office attendance.

Pros

- Good employee benefits & London office is nice

Cons

- Chaotic is an understatement. Not many people know what they're doing and the lack of structure makes it even worse. It's shambolic if you're coming in as an external candidate. - One of the worst onboarding experiences I've ever had. They left me to sort out absolutely everything from my staff pass and laptop to software access. - No training: just thrown straight into the role with a few handovers that don't really do a good job of explaining what you're supposed to do (meaning it takes months to truly understand anything). - A lot of cross collaboration was required for my role but it was difficult to get answers out of anyone - spend 20% of my days chasing people for info and getting ignored. - Micromanagement was an issue for me but this was probably unlucky and is likely dependent on who you get as your manager

Worst place to work

Pros

Apart from the pay, nothing.

Cons

Bad management. Stressful. Some people sit doing nothing while others are constantly being put under pressure. Some people there think they own the company and do what they like. The 999 call centre in Dundee sounds like it's operating in a supermarket. What would you feel if one day you call 999 in distress and in the background you hear all the fun going on there ( like the loud laughs and joyful high pitched unrelated to work conversations) of those who are paid to do nothing.
