A sinking ship

Pros

- Those on the ground who do the heavy lifting are great

Cons

It's a company that does not actively care about its employees, and by this, I mean actions speak louder than words. BT is all words. There's a clear divide between seniority and status talks LOUDLY. There's a substantial lack of compassion that comes from senior leadership at BT. They will not listen to what the majority of employees want, they do not like being challenged - despite what they might say. There's a stubborn hill they're climbing up and will no doubt die on it. It's not a progressive company at all, headed by people who instil archaic ways of working and an undemocratic hierarchy. Challenging upwards is non-existent because the environment is toxic. You're not expected to argue back with their decisions, and if they don't like something - you'll definitely know about it. It's a company where respect and general humility in communication is non-existent. Culture is non-existent. Forcing people to come into the office is not a way to create culture, if anything, it will foster bitterness. BT is an environment where you'll flourish if you're an a** hole.

Pros

Temp job undertaken for 8 months. Working environment relatively pleasant. Holidays are good. Lots of banal charitable activities and community engagement to disguise the awful working environment.

Cons

Horrific training. Management and organization an absolute shambles. Ill prepared and reactionary approach to management hence constantly putting out fires. Widespread nepotism and cronyism means they tend to retain the worst staff. Lots of clock watchers etc and overall an awful, unmotivated and unrewarded work environment.

Pros

The "leadership week" which is hosted by an external training company is outstanding! I really struggle to think of anything positive other than that, besides having "BT" on your CV (not even sure what thats worth in todays job market).

Cons

I joined as a Software Graduate yet ended up in a Networking Graduate role on the other side of the country, with no idea about this until I arrived there. Even the team I was joining was expecting a Networking Graduate, not a Software one. BT did NOTHING to help rectify this, trust me when you are in you're just a number. They take on too many Graduates to handle and once you're in they are just focused on the next intake. I eventually switched roles after eight months of persistently asking to be given the right role and basically learning nothing, as my whole learning and career plans were focused around Software NOT Networking. Even when I switched roles the work was boring and almost non-existent. Training was also non-existent. I had almost ZERO hands-on experience or working with tech, so after another six months of time wasting I left. My only regret is not leaving sooner as all the warning signs were there.
