Pros
You will have the chance to work with some of the smartest and most driven people you will ever meet. Leadership opportunities are plentiful and you can develop quickly.
Cons
- No work/life balance. (Nights, weekends, holidays). Salaried employees are expected to work a minimum of 60 hours a week or more. - Performance review system has no checks and balances. Managers can pencil whip negative reviews to meet their attrition goals. This is not an unusual occurrence. - High salaries are meant to offset extra hours. Do the math. Averaging 60-70 hours a week means lower than a typical 40-50 hours a week. - Attrition: Amazon has an attrition problem at all levels. This means that productivity goals for those remaining continue increasing. - Pathways Attrition: Extremely high. Many pathways are poached by other companies, quit due to the poor work/life balance or due to the poor culture - Company Culture: Amazon has more than a cutthroat culture. It is a company that thrives on contrived conflict amongst its employees. Collaboration is useful after the gladiatorial conflict session is over and the survivors have been determined.
