Pros

Young team, experience and age wise. Lots of parties, drinking, and the like.

Cons

AlphaSights no longer has the right to label itself as a start-up, they've been around for 10 years, but it still suffers the problems of one. The company focuses so heavily on recruiting fresh graduates that relevant experience takes a back seat. With the vast majority of "managers" having only a few years working experience under their belt, anyone seeking career guidance or professional development is going to be sorely disappointed. Personally I've had 3 "Vice Presidents" promise sponsorship for professional qualifications only to have the offer rescinded after my acceptance. Your manager will micromanage you and cannot, or will not, accept that you are a capable employee with a social life outside of work. Clients will email and call you at unreasonable hours with unrealistic expectations and you will be expected to deliver without question. Expect constant interruptions to your work with pointless meetings about "business", "professionalism", and such when most of the staff are "Associates", a term here that means "Telesales staff". Prepare to be constantly reminded by managers (who may only have 2-3 years working experience, and only at this company) about how much you learn about various industries, companies, and creating professional networks (by means on trawling LinkedIn and making a load of cold calls). Anyone who thinks they can become an expert on an industry by talking to a high level executive over the phone for a few hours is very naive. On a personal note, I was forced to resign. Having decided that I wasn't getting the experience I wanted from AlphaSights I decided to confidentially inform one of the Vice Presidents. Within 2 weeks I was pulled into a meeting with a different Vice President who promptly promised a smooth exit for me. They promised to keep me in the loop when hiring for my replacement, including being involved in the interviewing and search process, but after a few months I was told by that same Vice President to commit to a last working day because they have hired someone. I wasn't even made aware they had begun the hiring process yet.

Pros

learn better communication skills and time management, build confidence on the phone

Cons

Hours are way too long .... 8 to 6 on a good day. People often work until 7/8pm and then continue to work at home. There is no cap to the amount of work you can do and even if you feel like you are maxed out, you will be given more work. It is no wonder that people burn out here quickly. The promotion structure is also ridiculous. After 2 years, anyone who was good at their analyst job basically gets promoted to manage a team of their own. But the issue is - being good at managing your OWN INDIVIDUAL projects does not in any way translate to being a good manager of people.

We're committed to creating a great experience for all of our employees, so it's disappointing to hear this perspective. We're constantly looking to improve, so we valuable all feedback we receive (though hearing it through one of our many internal feedback channels would be most constructive and appreciated!). To respond to your main point: people at AlphaSights definitely work hard to provide a high level of service to our clients. Sometimes -- but not always -- that means some late nights. Our people are rewarded for their hard work and the impact they make on the business with performance pay, significant autonomy and responsibility, and rapid career progression opportunities. We're constantly working to make sure AlphaSights is a great place for ambitious people to launch their careers. That means finding people who are the perfect fit, setting clear expectations that this is a place where people work hard (and play hard!), and rewarding people for their contributions. It's disappointing to hear that AlphaSights hasn't met your expectations, but we thank you for your feedback. If you'd like to provide additional feedback or set up time for a one-on-one confidential conversation, please contact us at careers.us@alphasights.com.
