Pros

1. Friendly colleagues & communal atmosphere 2. Fun parties, sport teams, trips, interesting speakers 3. Opportunities and support to drive forward initiatives Possibly a good place to start for those with little experience/specific skills/qualifications

Cons

1. Falsely marketed to new recruits The reality of the day-to-day role is hidden in well-crafted marketing and the use of attractive buzzwords. You have very little exposure to the industries and projects that your client is working on, and the learning curve is limited at best. This job is not intellectually challenging, and is far removed from the content of projects. It is extremely repetitive and monotonous, and the role is purely facilitative and administrative. At best, it is a sales role, but even that is an overstatement. Best comparison is that of a call centre. What the role involves: receiving a client brief, looking for certain words (e.g. 'sales' @ 'company x'), putting those words into LinkedIn, cold calling people and reciting a pre-determined script, scheduling phone calls for clients. The problem is not with what the role involves in itself; AlphaSights is very effective, valued by clients, and a clear market leader in providing the service that it does provide. The problem is with the way that this is conveyed to prospective candidates inn an effort to recruit 'top talent'. There is no development of hard skills, apart from confidence to speak on the phone. Salary is completely misstated on marketing materials - compensation is not as high as it is presented to be, and is dependent on 'performance' (measured by a single, unrepresentative metric) 2. Senior management lacks integrity and foresight. Complete and total lack of professionalism in the way that this firm is run and employees are treated - especially if/when they choose to leave the firm. Senior management must look to get to grips with the root cause of employee dissatisfaction rather than looking for scapegoats. 3. Skewed reward and promotion system 4. Overstated relationship with clients - not a knowledge partner but distant service provider 5. Limited exit options given the lack of skills development (aside from management skills, which you probably do get earlier than you would elsewhere)

We connect our clients with experts who have the knowledge our clients seek. The Associate role is thus about (i) understanding what knowledge our clients seek, (ii) breaking down clients' knowledge requests, (iii) searching for, contacting and qualifying experts who possess the right knowledge, and (iv) connecting our clients to experts through tailored solutions that save our clients time and help them get their job done most effectively Sincerely, Dominique, SVP

Pros

- You enter with a class of entry-level analysts, which creates a fun and friendly environment for your first month or so during training. - Stand-out snack options. Lunch program is pretty good, too. - You join with a lot of ambitious peers, fresh grads from all over the country and East Coast eager to get their start in NYC.

Cons

- Management is not honest or straightforward about what is expected of you. - The evaluation system is very poor; not only is there no set standard for performance evaluation, even if you meet that performance evaluation, it does not preclude you from the fear of being let go without notice. There's developed a culture only driven by performance rather than quality, which means if you don't meet the company's standards of performance (regardless of outstanding circumstances/conditions), you are in fear of being let go. - The hours are long, and not necessarily correlated with how much you'll be compensated extra, which is what is advertised. - It's a hit or miss, project-by-project game, and if you're staffed on an account or project that spirals down unexpectedly through no fault of your own, you're penalized for it. - Leaders are driven solely by the bottom-line, without apparent respect or regard for how employees are respected or treated. Since fresh grads don't know much of anything else, they'll take it, too. - Not much opportunity for upward movement and growth, there's a quick plateau after 4 months where you either wait it out until a tentative promotion (which isn't much different from entry-level in terms of responsibility), or you leave. That's been the trend in the last year. - Most people do not seem to be happy, and I know many who are actively looking for other jobs and opportunities. - The stated values of the company are not reflected in how they treat their employees. - A lot of what AlphaSights prioritizes is in line with start-ups and start-up culture, however, it is no longer a start-up, rather a fully-fledged firm, and does not act according to these new standards.

Pros

Friendly and nice people. Great extra activities (parties, weekends, sports...). Good salary.

Cons

Very boring and repetitive. The job consists in doing the exact same basic tasks hour after hour. Doesn't require any analytical skills, which can be very saddening if you enjoy thinking. Not entrepreneurial as presented in the recruitment process. No holistic project management. If you like even the slightest level of analysis and project management, don't apply.
