Pros

If you are close to your manager you may get chance to be involved in more exciting project.

Cons

No job security. You are always hunted by feeling to be laid off.

Pros

Friendly colleagues Impressive end product (not that you'll ever see much of it)

Cons

Talking in acronyms is common to any sphere of work, but here it really does rule the day and I expect many of the misguided souls who work here feel proud to be 'on the inside'. Astrium is a company of one-trick ponies grinding their way slowly through meetings about meetings not to mention the endless paperwork. It's amazing to think that working products actually emerge at the end of this slow and inefficient process. Pay is in the lower quartile relative to other sectors and career progression poor. So many people here seem trapped with no transferable skills and boy don't HR know this. Ok for contractors as a last resort but again pay rates are low. If you really must work in the space sector, seek out opportunities in Canada and the USA.

A glorified service company

Pros

- Great work life balance. Strictly work between 10 to 6 and leave home. - Europe Travel to meet colleagues in France couple of times in a year. But this is also coming to a stop this year. - Ability to change across projects every 2 years. You can even change your business area. Tech people can get into business, business people can get into tech. But that also kind of dilutes performance a lot.

Cons

- Service Company mindset - Speakup culture is glorified too much. People who speak are given more importance than people who do the real engineering work. - Low performing people are a real pain in the butt, as you have to deal with them on a daily basis. Especially in my case, these low performing people are business analysts, which made it very difficult to get business contexts while working on the application. - Manager is rude to almost all people who don't speak up or speak up less when compared to other people. - Below average company if you are a person driven by high engineering standards.
