- Noble and valuable mandate focused on a region of great international importance - Organization undergoing many changes hence it can be an interesting place to work - Opportunities to assist African governments and travel widely within the continent addressing important development challenges - Diverse organization with opportunity to work with anglo and francophone nationals from across Africa as well as non-regional member countries

Cons

- Top-down management - lack of distributed leadership and management where most major decisions are taken from the top and then past down the chain of command - Excessively bureaucratic and slow with many (perhaps too many) rules and regulations - Lack of transparency in internal organization - often promotions and changes in management positions lack clear reasoning - Lack of trust within the organization means that many issues are not openly discussed among management and staff and among staff

Fast growing organization with great mandate (growth and poverty alleviation in Africa) and great opportunities for motivated and dynamic staff. Great operational programme all over the continent. Interesting internal mobility opportunities.

Cons

Disfunctional organization under constant reform. Professionalism is slowly improving but be prepared for very frustrating times. Still far too much bureaucracy, but things are getting better.
