Pros

Extremely smart/bright people, global focus, collegial atmosphere. The investment management equivalent of working for the best of the high tech start-ups.... good and bad.

Cons

At the time, the organization's investment process was founder-driven and opaque, based on a complex computer algorithm process using a relatively obscure object-oriented computer language (Eiffel). This lead to an undetected error in the firm's computer model and much turmoil in the firm and loss of many clients and a large percentage of assets (and of many good people). Management tried its best to guide the firm through the turmoil, but there was only so much it could do.....

Pros

Friendly, smart people with a lot of integrity. Interesting work and great place to develop ones abilities. CEO is great and has strong investment knowledge. Incredible investment process that stands the test of time. So close to bringing back its former success. Performance and product are excellent. Culture and values (of the employees not management) are exceptional, unique and compelling.

Cons

Parent company interference is detrimental to morale and the structure is inefficient. Little room for advancement with poor decision making around who is promoted to senior positions. Senior management under CEO are generally not good managers. Loyalty and tenure are no longer valuable currency. Parent company's control of comp and benefits are negatively impacting the ability to be competitive in the market.
