Pros

The brand image of AVL in the automotive industry is really good and it can help you in getting to a better job in another company. AVL does hire the best engineers and you have a chance to work with the brightest. if you are lucky you would be working in very good innovative projects. There will be team dinners, lavish Christmas party for you and your partner every year and other perks too.

Cons

Unlike AVL in the Graz, AVL UK doesn't have any whole projects. you will be mostly placed at customer ends. once you are at the customer end, the everyday tasks are usually decided by the customer manager. AVL works more like an agency and sells the manpower on an hourly basis only the rates are quite high compared to other employment agencies. doesn't invest in training the employees much. If AVL sponsors your visa, then your career growth and salary hikes are also limited as they already know you can't move to another company without a sponsorship. I have seen many bright engineers from India and non-European countries with several years of experience working as foot soldiers. They usually don't get any career growth or real hikes until they get an ILR in the UK when they can move employer without restriction. I was made redundant in June as AVL lost several customer projects along with 70 other employees. All the employees were hoping to stay in the furlough scheme at least with the minimum payment. The management was really hard and decided not to carry on and was not offering the furlough scheme past June- remember till July government was paying the full 80% salary. was a bit of a surprise as many of the companies in the automotive sector were at least keeping their employees on furlough scheme. This is despite the fact that AVL had a strong profit and cash balance the previous year
