Pros

Night shift premium pay (though barely compensates for the lifestyle sacrifices) Less micromanagement compared to day shifts (mainly because upper management doesn't care about night staff) Some decent colleagues among the night team

Cons

Consistently understaffed while expectations remained unreasonably high Invisible to higher management except when something goes wrong Inadequate training despite being thrown into responsibilities immediately Excessive physical demands with little support or proper equipment Complete disconnect between day and night operations, creating constant blame games Social life becomes virtually non-existent Regular last-minute shift changes and unexpected overtime

Pros

Flexible working - part time can work basically full time consistently, or you can choose not to. Management teams I worked with were overall good. All colleagues bar till staff were friendly and welcoming and would help where they could. Easy to learn. High targets especially when on nights, but felt supported and realistic based on your ability on what they expected you to do. Fair pay for the time Lots of charity contributions happening within my store which was nice to see. Good relationships with others formed. I felt like I was supported by my managers to progress, even if I chose not to.

Cons

No full time contracts for sales assistant - effects home, loans, mortgage etc Very clique - everyone is in everyones business and has dated, or is family or dislikes another. Many affairs happening that then become an issue for other workers adding an air of awkwardness to working. Internal issues not addressed properly. Calling in sick is treated as the worst thing that could happen Upper management on days - never seen on the shop floor Could feel the stress direct management were under. Although mine never took it out on me, you could tell they were getting the worst of it.
