Pros

Really enjoy chatting to customers, get a good few laughs! Never met a rude member of staff, everyone friendly and easy to talk to, easy to sit with people in the cantine. Staff cantine very cheap. "Career breaks" are given for any reasonable time off which you require. 20% staff discount days "double discount" days are very much looked forward to. Good communication of store events and feedback on how the store is performing is always nice to know. Always plenty of overtime available if needed- yet not forced or made to feel bad if unavailable. Always made to feel like an individual and not forgotten about by manager.

Cons

Training was very general and time consuming- although necessary. Must remember to swipe in and out of shifts and for lunch. Very occasionally difficult customers, but always supported by runners/ managers. Long shifts can be tiring. Lifting heavy items are difficult.

Pros

The only redeeming features of working for ASDA include its average wages as well as a very useful 10% discount card. The sharesave scheme is also fairly okay although complicated and confusing.

Cons

The first challenge is getting past the disorganisation, perpetuated by the bad management. Managers do not seem to work hard at all, instead preferring to sit in the cafe and delegate tasks. Cuts have wracked the shop, leaving areas under-staffed and inefficient. Nepotism and favoritism is rife - hard working colleagues are completely overlooked for promotion in favour of colleagues to prefer to gossip and make friends with the managers. Managers themselves are condescending and disrespectful. The working environment is poor. Working your way upwards if you have been put on a certain section of the store, for example porting, is essentially impossible, leading many people to leave after a while. Paperwork is almost never done, and you will be frequently berated for not turning up to shifts you were never told you were working. Shifts are too long, resulting in boredom.
