Pros

The pay. 20% Discount card. That is honestly it, and that is the only reason why they have staff. There is 0 job satisfaction.

Cons

Management are useless and pretty much non existent. Managers are always changing, so you don't get a connection with anyone. Equipment is outdated (why are we still using a dirty keyboard, have you seen sainsburys and tesco?) Every checkout has bits of equipment missing (eg. Important phones to contact the runners) we have to wave around our hands waiting for someone to see us while the customers are getting frustrated at waiting in the queue and taking it out on us. Never get your lunch at the time put down, (your name "accidentally" gets crossed out because they thought you've been already) always have to nag staff walking past that you haven't had your break yet. The excuse is "we don't have enough people to do breaks" Yet you see plenty of staff standing around chatting doing nothing! You get left on the self checkout by yourself. This is impossible to control by yourself and very stressful. This ASDA must lose so much money from all the stolen goods at the self checkout. It's impossible for one person to control. These may not seem like really big problems to some but they are when you're doing this type of job. Everyone on checkouts has these issues and more! The turn over is so high people are always leaving. ASDA don't care though because there are always students and desperate people willing to work for them because of the pay.

Pros

flexibility (you can even work full time or 1 day/week if that suits you, broad range of working times available: early mornings, evenings or nights - so you cam match it with other job, studying or parenting), possibility to change department, possibility to develop (it seems to hard way, but if you want to become a manager at ASDA one day - it is possible), 10% colleague discount + additional 10% once a year a month before Christmas,

Cons

low wage, culture of control, no trust at all, informing,
