I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Upwork in May 2023
Interview
First call was fine, but aggressive as they focused too much on logistics and not on establishing a personal connection. Second call was unsettling. First, there was a product sense case study -- but there was no warning in advance this would be a case study. Second, the case study was about Upwork itself so it was deeply uncomfortable giving "free ideas" and "free work." Third, the actual job description was very vague. No one gave any direction on what the actual job was besides "transformative AI" which has absolutely no meaning. Overall a sense that they are looking for very boring, cookie-cutter perfectionists who fit into a very specific mold (ie ex-FAANG employees).
The interviewer ask the common behavioral question that you would encounter on a typical corporate setting then moved on to the more technical part and asked about the particular experience in the field
4 Interview Stages 1. Initial HR Discussion 2. Technical Evaluation 3. Practical Assignment 4. Assignment Assessment The interview process consisted of four stages, starting with an initial HR discussion. This was followed by a technical evaluation to assess the candidate's skills and knowledge. After the successful completion of the technical interview, the candidate was assigned a practical task. Finally, the candidate's assignment was reviewed and assessed. Throughout the interviews, the interviewers displayed a strong understanding and enthusiasm for automation, making the process enjoyable and insightful.
