I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Upwork (Mountain View, CA) in Feb 2014
Interview
Caught the posting via Indeed and applied directly. Telephone interview with HR recruiter and hiring managers went well; brought onsite for 4 hour in person interviews (6 people total, 30 to 45 min each). Position seemed to be created due to some DDOS attacks they have been subject to, merger with their competitor, etc. Sadly, it is an individual contributor role under a VP in IT - immediate conflict of interest. Good luck getting any buy in from the C levels for your efforts.
Things seemed to go well - and then no feedback at all.
Over a month passes, reached out by some body shop headhunter looking for a Security architect - guess where? Yep, elance. Asked headhunter for feedback, was supposed to hear back from him by the end of the day. It has been a week, nothing - and the headhunter will not return calls.
Unprofessional.

Interview
They'll just ask you about your experience and some sample sites that you've worked on in the past. Some technical questions for some clients but that's all.

Question 1
If you don't have an experience yet, well maybe if they ask you for some sample works that you've done before.
