Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I have given interview for Data Engineer role at Transunion. They have asked questions on multiple technology, such as Hive, Shell Scripting, SQL, Spark etc. on hive - what are different types of tables in hive?? different fileformats?? difference between Avro and parquet? on HDFS - command to check file size in Hadoop directory? What happens when name node fails? what happen if Data node crashes? On Spark - Difference between repartitions and coalesce? Narrow and Wide Transformation ? Brodcasts and Accumulator in spark?
The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TransUnion in Jan 2022
Interview
Interview took place with a panel of 3 people from different teams.
One person had constant background noise during the time I was solving some technical questions (she didn’t bother to mute herself during the entire interview process). Recruiter didn’t bother to respond after the first round.
I applied online. I interviewed at TransUnion (Chicago, IL) in Dec 2021
Interview
I interviewed December. It took around 3 months. Recruiter reached me around November. We had discussions around compensation, interview process. Conversation went well. Then moved on to hiring manager round. Discussions were around my experience how well I would fit in the role etc. Finally panel round with 3 nice people, they asked lot of questions around my experience, had SQL whiteboarding. I thought it went well. I was told that the holidays would delay the process, which was understandable.
I followed up after the interview for about a month. The recruiter was nice enough to say initially that she received really positive feeback from the team and would update soon.
After weeks when I asked for an update again,
she said there was no update and would update when she has any.
I did not follow up after and I did not receive any update at all.
I have accepted another offer but I cannot figure out how can a company not have an update for about 2 months? I mean, everyone is spending time to interview with the company. Is it too hard to let the candidates about the decision? Very bad experience.
P.s. Its been more than 3 months, I saw the job resposted again today. I mean, really???
I am disappointed by the experience you had during your interview process. The experience you describe is not in line with the recruitment process we have set out to achieve and we would like to apologize. We believe that every candidate should receive timely feedback as communication is a core component to the interview process. We value the time that is spent during our initial conversations and it is clear we missed the mark. We’re taking active steps to look at all the areas we can improve. I appreciate you taking the time to leave your honest response and we will be sharing this with our internal team.
