I applied online, in a couple of days time I was invited to do an online assessment which included maths test and customer service scenarios. In 3 days I had a short telephone interview. In 4 days after I had a face to face interview with the branch manager and regional manager. There was a maths test and competency questions, customer service scenarios, they asked why I would liked to work for Santander and about the products of the bank. I could ask questions as well, they gave contradictory answers about salary. With working hours it turned out there would have been about 45 minutes extra unpaid work every day according to the finishing and starting times they told me about. These issues put me off immediately. I was told that I would be notified about the outcome in 2-3 weeks. No contact for weeks, then I kept chasing them for weeks as I thought it was unacceptable to promise results in 2-3 weeks then make no contact at all and then keep saying your query would be passed on to the relevant person. After 2 months I was told external recruitment had stopped because of recent branch closures but they thought I wouldn't have been strong enough as a personal banker but I was welcome to apply for customer service positions in the future. I just found it weird that if they didn't thought I would have been strong enough why wait 2 month to reject me?!
