I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Rakuten (Nueva Delhi) in Aug 2019
Interview
Went for Interview in rakuten office, first round data science mcq test with 30 questions. Next round after 2hrs of waiting with Japanese guy on WebEx .He didn't ask any questions ,just ask to explain what you are working on, which framework, library do you use . Then waited for 1:30 hrs, went to hr for further details, she told that you rejected as you are weak in statistics, ,then I ask he didn't ask single questions, how he had come to that conclusion. she said your profile not fit for job this much experience, I ask why you had shortlisted me , then she said we didn't done that ,it was through consultancy. Total waste of time.

I though I've already seen the worst hiring process until I interview with Rakuten. I applied online and HR contacted me for a phone screening. Unfortunately, HR was late for almost 30min for that scheduled phone call. I was then told to send him my recent availability so that he can arrange an interview with the hiring manager. And that's the last time I heard from HR. Not replying my follow-up email, not sending me the rejection letter either. Not at all professional.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rakuten in Nov 2018
Interview
There was 3 Japanese staff. The interview is organized in Japanese. You introduced yourself.
They asked me questions about why I want to be a data scientist. They ask me questions about what skills I have. They confirm which programming language that I used.
