I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at PwC in Jun 2012
Interview
Had a conversation with a contact at the firm which led to 2 phone interviews and many conversations. Flew to a major office for 3 in-person interviews. My first phone interview was with a woman from HR and she was very informative about the company as a whole and the industry. My second phone interview was with a director and she had more specific information about the role of an associate in the industry. Both interviews centered mainly on my resume, my goals, and my interest in the company.
My in-person interviews were 3 ~30 minute 1-1 interviews. I was interviewed by a partner/practice lead and 2 directors. They were all very personable and interested in learning about my experience. These interviews also centered around my resume but involved a few more specific questions about my coursework. I was also asked how I would advise a firm who was interested in utilizing social media for their business.
I spoke with my HR representative the next week and received an offer.
Be prepared, honest, and confident. The interviewers are mostly consultants so they're pleasant people to talk to.

Interview
Did an initial screening with a HR rep, then 2 weeks later I did a phone interview with a director from New York. Was very friendly asked what area I was interested in, basic fit behavioral questions. I was then put in contact with a HR representative through email.
I was notified a month after the first phone interview via email for a second phone interview with a manager for the local office where I wanted to work. More specific questions concerning my experience and knowledge of conducting projects for the specific area in PwC (Advisory in my case).
I was in contact with the same HR rep 2 - 3 weeks after the second phone interview about final round interviews in NY. The date was changed about 3 different times with in a week. Often I had to email the HR person concerning updates.
Flew to NY the night before, interviewed the next day. Was brought into the wrong waiting area in the building. Called the person who was suppose to meet me, he informed me that was for Assurance. Was brought to the first interview 15 min late.
Did 3 interviews (45 min each), manager, director and partner. Remember everyone's name of the entire process, make sure to get business cards. Ask questions!!! They want curious intelligent people. I was asked questions about a different advisory area I wasn't applying for. Despite 6 years of government experience, I was told other candidates had more directly related business experience. I was also advised to do a internship, though they only offer internships during the summer to college students.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PwC (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2010
Interview
Very normal interviews to look for interest, personality/cultural match. Fortunately for me, the local sports team was in the World Series, so we spoke about our sports passion for most of the time.
