I applied online. I interviewed at Penguin Random House
Interview
I would say the interview process was difficult simply because of the assessment before the interview. 72 hours to read 2 manuscripts, write 2 readers reports, and 2 flap copies with no guarantee that you’ll get an interview or a job offer. I understand that there needs to be an assessment given to prospective employees, but this one (compared to other assessments I’ve done) felt over the top. At a point, it’s too much and just feels like free labor.

I applied online. I interviewed at Penguin Random House (New York, NY) in Dec 2021
Interview
Was made to write a review of a contemporary fictional novel that came out in my cover letter. Asked many questions pertaining to experience in the industry. They seemed to be screening for people passionate about books but with know-how of what the job entails.

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Penguin Random House
Interview
HR interview first, followed by a reader's report with a forty-eight hour deadline, then an interview with the hiring managers (one or two people depending). Manuscripts seem to always be authors they've already signed on across the board
