I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Meta (Londres, Inglaterra) in Oct 2020
Interview
I interviewed for RPM
First stage - basic behavioural, favourite Fb product, how would you improve
Second stage - product sense, execution
Third stage - product sense, execution, leadership and drive
The interview process itself is very transparent, and Facebook does provide a lot of resources to help you and recruiters are on hand to answer questions along the way. There is also a lot of information online to help you prepare and if you invest the time and do a lot of mocks with other people (this was my downfall) you have the potential to do well. I don't think the interviews themselves are that hard, the hard part is the preparation time and covering all bases
The process to be prepare is extremely time consuming. As to be well prepared you will need to understand all of Facebook’s products, general strategy, trends (to tie in to product sense Qs) and have thought of and practice improvements/metrics for all of them. This process takes a long time
I applied without referral, was invited to book first round a couple of days later. After first round, I had to follow up but was invited to second round. After second round I was informed I was successful after 3 days
My negative experience stems primarily from the final round. I messed up the execution so was not surprised by the rejection, but it took FOUR WEEKS to receive this outcome - after following up twice. I’m not sure if I even would’ve heard back if I didn’t follow up. The worst is that it’s ‘company policy’ to not provide feedback. So even after all those hours of preparation and time I had dedicated to preparing they provided a generic rejection email and not a single piece of advice/feedback on what I did well or where I could improve. Very very poor way to treat candidates who have invested a lot of time and effort into preparing
There are initial phone screening with the HR. Then if the phone call went well, you will be scheduled to two video conferences (45 min each) that focus on "Product Sense" and "Product Execution" types of questions. Then after that's passed, you will have a 2nd round of three video conferences (45 mins each). The topics are "Product Sense, Product Execution, and Leadership." Once you passed this round, there will be about 2 weeks of reviewing process before they send out the offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you measure the success of the Instagram story?
If you were the PM for FB dating app, and the users have dropped by 10%. What would you do?
My experience was strange. I had originally applied to 2 different open positions unrelated to PM. A few days later I received an email from a recruiter wanting to schedule a phone call with me. Fast forward to that day the recruiter never called and didn’t send an email mentioning anything changing. I then emailed them to ask about it but never received a reply back that whole day. Not sure what could have happened but I take it as highly unprofessional!
