I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Fastenal in Sep 2010
Interview
Applied for the job through the website and received a response by phone from the District Manager. The DMs handle hiring for store positions. I was offered a position at a different store location than the one I applied for. Seems as though this is fairly common since the company receives low number of applicants for the rate of turnover. Interview consisted of a meeting and job breakdown with the local store manager that lasted roughly an hour and then a later sit down interview with the DM. Proper attire is laid out in correspondence before the interview but I would suggest wearing blue since that is the company color. No hard questions were asked but the focus seemed to be mostly on how committed you would be to staying on at the company.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Are you looking for a long term position? Difficult from my perspective since I was applying for an 18 hour per week position while I attended school and this job did not seem centered on long term committment.
I applied in-person. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Fastenal (Saint Louis, MO) in Jan 2012
Interview
The interview process consist of filling out an online application that includes all of your past work experience. I spent a considerable amount of time reworking my resume only to find out that they didn't need/never look at it. There is also an online comprehension test that ask questions and has you pair up or pick out the best answers. The test is timed and is based off how accurately you respond and how many questions you answer (they never show or tell you the results).
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Fastenal in Apr 2011
Interview
Hiring process was very smooth. Met a DM at a career fair. Week later met a store manager for an interview, week later met with the DM for final interview. Interview questions were very basic. You don't need sales experience to apply.
