I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at CIBC (Toronto, ON) in Apr 2009
Interview
Interviews and hiring at CIBC for permanet positions can take some time as a very detailed background check is performed. This includes interviews to your past employers/managers, studies check, university degrees check including overseas studies and certificates. In my case I got through 4 interviews including one panel/group one with the people to be my peers.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CIBC in Feb 2009
Interview
I was already working as an intern at CIBC and applied to this position internally. I was first contacted by the HR Coordinator and had a phone interview. The phone interview consisted of behavioral questions as well as experiences with the technologies I would be working with. This led to a 1-1 interview with the hiring manager. This was fairly straight forward and focused more on my work experience outlined in my resume. I then had a second interview with the Senior Director of the department and a Senior Developer. This second interview was much more casual and we simply talked about existing projects and what type of work I would be doing if I was hired. I was then expected to complete a skills test in 48 hours consisting of several written questions and one programming exercise. These were not too difficult.
Shortly after (1 week), I was extended an offer which I declined as my existing role was transferred into a full time role at a better salary.
